Ink and colored pencil. This is being given away in a raffle at the hospital this week, at our final "event", celebrating the 25th anniversary just as our doors are being closed. I am heartbroken. I have another job waiting for me, no big deal, but I am sickened by the idea of people ending up in Taunton State, or wherever, instead of being close to home where they have a much better chance of transitioning back to their families and communities....I also worry about the drastic reduction in community based services, a new DMH system where there is no oversight of community services, etc etc. These will be tough times for families struggling with severe mental illness in Massachusetts.Monday, August 31, 2009

Laundry Day
This is "Laundry Day," photographed in my crit space June 09. A womanly creature experiencing the futility of clothing. She won first place mixed media in the Plymouth Guild's 42nd Annual Juried Show! I also have a drawing in the show, and my husband has two sculpture pieces which are fab (take my word, I have no images of them to post!).The show opens 9/11/09, and on 9/12 (9/13 rain date) Plymouth is having its annual Art Stroll--this is Plymouth at its most charming, with artists and music out on the main street. Saturday mornings is also the day of the "junior-sized" Plymouth farmer's market, which is right in town as well and always has music. (For a bigger market, Thursday afternoons at Stephen's Field--a thriving local foods movement with music, tons of good food, etc). Lots of local businesses get into the art stroll thing, the UU church will be making Peace Flags in Town Square and everyone should see the fantastic Tiffany stained glass pilgrim windows in the church (big stone church at the top of the square).

July Art

Here is some new art. The top picture is from Fourth of July weekend, taking this mermaid out for a swim in PTown harbor. The next one is oil pastel on mi teints, whatever size that is, 16 in by something I guess. "Full Moon Glow." Next is "Asleep When the Tide Came In." It is 12 X 15, and is oil pastel on tin flag decoration, then scratched into. I have been drawing alot of sleeping women. It represents : sleep deprivation, desire to be ignorant of bad things happening, a visit to a deeper level of psyche, vulnerability, safety, time....
